Sharon Jackman

Sharon Jackman
First career in the arts was in modern dance, and she holds a
Master’s degree from the University of Illinois in that discipline. As a
choreographer, she mastered the process of creating form and design in time
and space. Working with clay seemed a natural evolution. Both art forms are
three dimensional, and the physicality of the work has similarities to the dance.
Sharon began working with clay at the Irvine Fine Arts Center in 1999.

Fascinated both by the earthiness and the endless flexibility of the medium, she
found herself carving and altering her pieces after forming on the pottery wheel to
create movement and flow. Drawn to the depth and brilliance of crystalline
glazes, she soon began working exclusively with smooth white porcelain, the
ideal surface for crystalline glazes. She continues to explore the relationship
between her forms and their elemental origins.
Sharon has been presenting her work at art festivals and in galleries up and
down the west coast for over a decade. She exhibited at the Festival of Arts
Laguna Beach for five years, and is delighted to be returning in 2020.
